So to sum it up - do all your midi and audio routing in your daw and not by going through the virus. If you want to record it normally then create a normal midi track and do it the old fashioned way To record virus part you export audio in realtime - do not try and record normally or you will get latency. (it has a tiny D on the virus submixer page of virus control, when you record highlight the D and when you play back remove the highlight) To play virus control with zero latency use main out NOT usb outs. to record midi parts from external controller you need to select virus MIDI and not virus Synth on the selection in logic.

Midi controller can go either through another pc midi socket or the virus midi ports. Virus digital output goes to digital input on mixer, which then goes to soundcard. I also have two midi cables but am not sure how exactly to connect them (perhaps to the virus) as the duet does not come with midi inputs.I have a Ti keyboard running through cubase 4 so it won't be exactly the same but here is how I do it. I do however get playback when I load a pre-recorded midi file onto this track.

I tried pluging in the oxygen8 in the other usb port on my macbook pro and it could play back other softsynths but went silent when enables on the virus control track. The first issue I have is getting a midi keyboard (oxygen8) to play back virus sounds when running as a plug-in on a midi track.

I don't now if this is common, but something seemed off.Īnyway, I know this is a lot of information, but if someone who owns some of this equipment or just has knowledge of how to best set this up could help me out- it would be much appreciated! Next, I successfully tracked the virus using a pre-recorded midi file by setting the output on the virus control to "out L+R", but the timing of the recording was extremely off- I beleive the issue is greater than latency, it was almost an 1/8 note off! The duet recorded cleanly but I notices when I had the audio track record enabled it was buzzing a lot.

I also have two midi cables but am not sure how exactly to connect them (perhaps to the virus) as the duet does not come with midi inputs.

I have monster instrument cables running from the outs of the snow to the inputs of the duet. I successfully have the duet running as my soundcard, and am using the virus snow as a plug-in via usb connection. I want to use the virus as a plug in, but track it through the duet. I just bought an Apogee Duet and a Virus snow and am having trouble setting it up optimally in Logic Pro 8.
